About

Unmitigated is a free NSFW digital fanzine, featuring kink related art and fanfic about characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Volume 1 came into existence after the contributors broke away from another zine over matters of censorship and marketability. We decided to form our own zine (with blackjack and hookers), and created Unmitigated. Now, we're hoping to open up the zine to new contributors and create an even spicier Volume.Disclaimer:
This zine series is devoted to everyone being their own unique type of freak. Accordingly, this zine will cover a broad range of kinks and themes. We label major triggers accordingly, but while we hope you will find something to your liking you may also find something that is your personal squick. That’s not a bug, that’s a feature. Everyone’s yum is someone’s yuck, and censoring based on this is not Unmitigated’s policy.

The zine will be distributed as a free download. Like Volume 1, it will be available to download indefinitely.What characters are allowed in the zine?
We are allowing all canon characters from the game and supplementary materials (Lodestone stories, Enyclopedia Eorzea, Eorzea Academy manga, etc.). Warriors of Light and other OCs will not be accepted, however, as this is an NPC focused zine and we want to let those NPCs shine. Minor use of OCs (such as those used in 'mob' scenes) is fine.Are trans depictions of characters allowed?
Trans depictions are not just allowed but encouraged! If Yoshi-P hasn't personally told us what someone's got in their pants, it's not uncanonical. (And if he has, fantasias are a thing so it doesn't have to stay that way.)What kink content is allowed in the zine?
ALL kink is welcome in this zine, with a few very small caveats:- This zine will not feature depictions of characters younger than Alphinaud and Alisaie. Aging up characters who are younger in canon is fine, however, as long as they are clearly not children in your piece.- We will ask that you provide a thorough list of trigger warnings/tags both when pitching, and for the actual zine production itself.- If one of your pitches contains something that none of the mods are comfortable reviewing, we may pick a different pitch. However, there likely will not be much that will fall into this category, if anything at all. We are flexible, and we want to work with you so that you're creating what you want to.If there's specific content you want to create and you're not sure if it will be acceptable, please feel free to reach out and ask!How many contributors will be in the zine?
That will depend on how many applications we get. Since this is a digital zine, we have a lot more flexibility on numbers.How are you determining contributors?
We will be asking participants to submit a portfolio and pitches, and will be judging based on both. We will NOT be judging based on the theme or content of applicants' prior work, unless it is explicitly bigoted or harmful to real world groups. Participants who engage in bigotry, hate speech, or online harassment will also not be accepted.Applicants will be asked to pitch 2-3 ideas for their piece and share examples of their prior work. We are trying to get a wide range of characters and styles, so don't worry if you've never done FFXIV-specific work before. If you are accepted but change your mind about your pitch, there's room for flexibility but the mods will need to approve the new pitch.All contributors must be over 18.What should be in my application?
An ideal portfolio should include your best quality pieces that relate to the content you want to create for the zine - either character specific, fandom specific, or kink specific. And if you don't have that, just give us your best work! We are judging as much or more on pitches as we are on portfolios, however. We're hoping to find a diverse range of creative ideas for our next volume.I've never been in a zine before. Should I apply?

Understandable, this is a very long game! For participants, we've created a 'sprout safe' area in our zine Discord for participants wanting to avoid MSQ spoilers. You can feel free to participate without worrying you'll be spoiled on game plot points you've yet to reach.The zine itself may contain Dawntrail or post-Dawntrail patch content depending on what participants choose to create, but recent content spoilers will be clearly labeled.Can I participate using a pseudonym separate from my usual online identity?
Absolutely! We respect our participants' privacy and understand that we are in a society that is increasingly harsh towards art with erotic, queer, or dark themes. Please just note it in your application, or reach out to the mods directly so we can make sure you feel safe as a contributor.
